Tips for transfer passengers
Please check the gate number and departure time from flight information screens and then go directly to the departure gate of your onward flight.
If you are travelling outside the Schengen area or arriving from a non-Schengen country, you will go through passport control. Citizens of EU countries, EEC member states and Switzerland holding biometric passports can use the fast and convenient automatic border control. Skip lines and try it out!
See more information on customs inspections and border control at Helsinki Airport.
If your flights are not booked in a single reservation under one ticket number, please allow enough time for the transfer. Collect your luggage from the baggage claim hall and then go through check-in and security control. Keep up with your airline's check-in schedule.
All passenger service are open also for tranfer passengers. See suggestions on how to spend time at the airport when you are waiting for your flight.
Security control for transfer passengers coming outside the EU
Helsinki Airport follows European Union's (EU) security regulations. This means, that all passengers transferring from non-EU countries to European Union countries, except those from the United States, have to go through the security control.
To ensure a smooth security control, please pack all liquids and sharp items into your baggage going into the hold. You may carry through security control only a few liquids in containers smaller than 100 ml. Our video shows how the security checks are made in Europe.
Liquids bought during your travel from a non-EU airport or onboard a non-EU registered plane are not allowed through the security. These items, including alcohol and cosmetics, will be taken away at the security control. This rule does no apply to liquids bought at certain non-EU airports provided that they are safely packed including a receipt stating the place of purchase. For more specific and up-to-date information, see the Finnish Transport Safety Agency website.
