Connections to sunny Spain were further improved, when Spanair launched direct service from Helsinki to Spain's second largest city, Barcelona. Initially, there will only be two flights a week, but plans call for an additional two flights a week in the spring of 2011.

Helsinki Airport connections will be further improved next spring, when Finncomm Airlines launches new direct service to Gdansk. Beginning 27 March 2011, Finncomm will fly daily to Gdansk in co-operation with Finnair.

Helsinki Airport invests in energy-efficient solutions both in its terminals and its outdoor areas. Recovered district heating is used to heat, among other things, the aircraft stands on the new terminal extension.
