Norwegian changes terminal and announces new routesNorwegian's check-in desks and baggage claim area moved to terminal 2 at the beginning of July. The air company will also open direct routes to Gran Canaria and Tenerife. The move is related to airline growth and the redevelopment of Helsinki Airport. Norwegian's operations grew significantly during the spring. The airline established a new base of operations at Helsinki Airport and assigned three aircraft there. Norwegian flies to thirteen popular destinations throughout Europe from Helsinki. In October Norwegian will launch another two international non-stop routes from Helsinki Airport. The new destinations are Gran Canaria and Tenerife. “We've had a tremendous response in the Finnish market and during our first three months in Finland more than 230,000 people have travelled with us on our thirteen routes. We are serious about our presence in Finland and are looking to expand our route network. We have not only managed to lower the high ticket prices in Finland but also managed to attract customers who previously didn’t view flying as a travel option”, said Norwegian's CEO Björn Kjos. Norwegian extended its current order with Boeing for an additional 15 Boeing 737-800 planes, taking the order up to a total of 78 aircraft to be delivered by 2018. All new aircraft will have the Boeing SKY interior as well as wireless internet. In February, Norwegian became the first airline in Europe to offer Wi-Fi on-board on short haul routes. Norwegian already offers the all new Boeing SKY aircraft interiors and in-flight Wi-Fi on approximately 20% of its flights. |
