Flavours from the East meet aromas from the West

For a few days, Helsinki Airport was transformed into a place where the kitchens of the East and West met, when world-class chefs came to showcase their culinary magic at the Food & Fun event on 10–11 November 2010.

The event brought together world-class chefs, culinary experts, professionals, media and invited VIP guests.

The competition involved several heavy hitters in the food game, who conjured up new taste sensations on East and West teams. The Travel Cuisine theme combined Asian, European and American cooking to form a multicultural culinary experience.

"The international culinary event, Food & Fun is a new way to both develop Helsinki Airport's restaurant services and offer the customer unforgettable taste experiences," explains Kalle Ruuskanen, Managing Director of Select Service Partner Finland.

The event also involved future food trends, in which local eating—or locavorism—would be a part of the airport's culinary landscape: air passengers want local flavour. Eating at the airport is also constantly increasing, and passengers are quality and price-conscious.

The Food & Fun event has been held in Reykjavik since 2000. Jointly hosted by Finnair and Icelandair, this year's event was brought to Helsinki Airport, which is a hub for East-West traffic.
