Connections to sunny Spain were further improved, when Spanair launched direct
service from Helsinki to Spain's second largest city, Barcelona. Initially,
there will only be two flights a week, but plans call for an additional two
flights a week in the spring of 2011.
"Spanair is an especially welcome addition to Helsinki Airport, because the
airline's profile in its home country is exceptional. This will promote growth
in tourist flow coming to Finland," explains Kimmo Holopainen,
Business development Manager for Finavia.
The Spanair flight will depart from Barcelona on Mondays and Fridays at 11:30am,
arriving in Helsinki at 4:20pm. The flight from Helsinki will depart for
Barcelona at 5:05pm and arrive at 8:00pm.
The flight times allow passengers from Barcelona or Helsinki to easily make
domestic connecting flights. Spanair offers connecting flights from Barcelona
to, among others Alicante, Bilbao, La Palma, Las Palmas, Madrid, Malaga and
Valencia, with plenty of time to change planes.
For its routes to Madrid and Palma de Mallorca, the airline has a code-share
agreement with Blue1. Correspondingly, Blue1 domestic destinations Kuopio, Vaasa
and Oulu also operate under Spanair flight numbers.
In addition to Spanair, Finnair also offers direct service from Helsinki Airport
to Barcelona.
