The Finnish airline Blue1, subsidiary of SAS, is ready for strong growth. The
airline's first Boeing 717 aircraft was delivered at Helsinki Airport on 3
August. In addition to this, interesting new routes will be launched this autumn
and next spring.
The Boeing 717 represents a new level of travel comfort. It equals larger
aircraft in terms of its fuselage size, offering roomier travel comfort in both
leg room and sitting space. The luggage storage is equal in volume to that of
larger aircraft. In terms of fuel consumption and environmental effects, the
Boeing 717 is top of its class.
Blue1 is currently investing in European business travel destinations. On 13
September the airline will begin daily service between Helsinki and its new
destination, Munich. The new Boeing 717 aircraft will be used on the new route.
The flight departs from Helsinki at 9:15 and from Munich at 12:20. In
October-November the departure time from Helsinki will be moved up a half an
hour to 8:30.
- The new route to Munich is a key addition to our business destination route
map. This year, Blue1 has already launched new flights to Berlin and Brussels
and doubled the number of flights to London Heathrow. We are further
strengthening our business travel offering with new routes and more flights,
states Juha Järvinen, Vice President Commercial at Blue1.
This autumn Blue1 will increase the number of flights considerably. This is made
possible by a new subcontractor agreement with Swedish airline, Golden Air. The
newly updated schedules are for both business and leisure travel. All flights
offer Economy Extra class, which is aimed at business passengers, and Economy
class, which is more geared toward leisure passengers.
In the autumn Helsinki Airport's flight connections will improve further as
Blue1 will double the number of flights to Zurich and Gothenburg. Beginning 31
October, there will be one additional flight to Zurich every evening. At the
beginning of November there will be an additional daily morning flight to
Gothenburg. Next year will also get off to an interesting start when the airline
begins direct service to Amsterdam, offering two daily flights at the beginning
of February.
The Blue1 aircrafts have always been named after Finnish lakes, but now the
water theme is being fulfilled visually in the Flowing appearance. The new look
is being implemented in innovative cooperation with the School of Art and Design
at Aalto University in Finland.
