15.12.2011 Helsinki Airport got an own grocery store
Alepa is a well known Finnish grocery shop chain store. Its new store is located in Terminal 2 in landside arrivals hall 2B, so purchases can be made not only by passengers, but all visitors to the airport. The store serves its customers 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
15.12.2011 Point Shop to Go is closed
Point Shop to Go -kiosk at the service floor has closed its doors.

18.11.2011 Almost@home is a unique lounge conceps
The decor and mood of Almost@home makes you feel like you are in a real Finnish home. It is designed to be a relaxed place to enjoy and get some work done. The idea behind the lounge is to provide a homey rest stop for hurried passengers. The lounge can be found at the long-haul flights area.
1.11.2011 R-kiosk closes and Café Plus moves next to Fly Inn
Café Plus has moved next to Fly Inn Restaurant & Deli at gate 27. A new Hello Café is being built at gate area 28-29. R-Kiosk will close its doors in the same area due to renovations.

14.11.2011 Junkers flew back!
Removed two years ago to make way for gate area renovations, the Helsinki Airport Junkers A 50 has come home. It can now be found near Gate 28.
7.10.2011 Pharmacy moves and Jungle Juice Bar opens its doors
The pharmacy at arrivals 2B moves to arrivals 2A. At the same time a new juice bar Jungle Juice begins to serve fresh, delicious and healty smoothies also at arrivals 2A.
19.9.2011 Global Blue moved to check-in area 201-232
Tax free refund service Global Blue has moved from gate 25 to check-in area at terminal 2. Export of the goods will be verified and refund paid at GB customer services centre before the check-in procedure. In terminal 1 it is still possible to obtain the export verification stamp at the check-in.
1.9.2011 Airpro moved to service floor
Airpro Travel Services, which offers f. ex. storing services, moved to service floor at terminal 2.

12.8.2011 Stockmann at gate 26-27 opens its doors
Popular Finnish department store Stockmann opens a new store at Helsinki Airport. The shop is specialized in interational and Finnish delicacies.
1.8.2011 Check-in area 400-423 will be closed and the work on a new security control area begins
In the beginning of August the check-in area 400-423 will be closed and the check-in desks will be unmounted. A new security control area will be opened by the end of the year.
29.7.2011 Baggage claim at Terminal 1 has being renewed
Two baggage carousels has been connected at Terminal 1. The baggage claim hall has now more space and the baggage handling works smoothly.

14.7.2011 More automatic automatic border control checkpoints
The Finnish Border Guard has opened a new, ten-checkpoint border control station to serve arriving passengers.
28.6.2011 Check-in desks 219-232 are open and ready for business
The renovation of the check-in area 201-232 is completed. The baggage handling centre is now fully integrated.

22.6.11 Cafe Tori is open
Customers can enjoy the athmospheric new cafe in the gate area 25-27.
1.6.11 Expansion of Long Haul Duty Free is ready
The shop's selection includes traditional duty free items as well as "Best of Finland" gifts.
10.5.11 Renovatios half finished in check-in area 201-232
Check-in desks 201-218 have been opened and are ready for business. Renovations on desks 219-232 have begun.
11.4.11 Luhta fashion shop opened its doors at gates 29-30
A new, spacious Luhta fashion shop was opened at gate area 29-30. The selection consists of Finnish outwear clothing brands (Luhta, Ice Peak, Rukka) and ladies fashion like Ril's & Your Face.
16.3.11 New Finavia Duty Free shop to open
Finavia's new Duty Free shop will open its doors at the former location of Robert's Coffee on 16 March. The Duty Free shop located between Gates 26 and 27 will close in week 13. It will be replaced by a new cafe with a view of the runways at or around Midsummer.
15.3.11 Upper level of Finnair Tax Free shop open
Located just across from Gates 28 and 29, the new Finnair Tax Free shop will be expanding its facilities, with a new upper level in mid-March. The upper level will offer gifts, apparel and cosmetics.
11.3.11 Toilets and a new access route to the Fly Inn restaurant will open on the upper level between Gates 26 and 27.
A new access route from Fly Inn restaurant to lounge facilities will be opened. The upper level will also have additional toilets, and the toilets on the lower level below will be closed to make way for a new café complex.
4.3.11 Temporary café to open at Gates 28-29
23.2.11 Capi Home Entertainment to open a new shop across from Gate 28
Offering a wide range of products, Capi Home Entertainment electronics will be opening across from Gate 28. Its location at Gate 29 closed on 25 February.
20.2.2011 Luhta to close temporarily
Luhta will close its location next to Gate 29. Its spacious new fashion boutique will open near Gate 30 in April.
17.2.11 Moomin Shop to move to new location at Gate 27
The Moomin Shop opens in its new location in the old location of Capi Home Entertainment 17 February at Gate 27. In Terminal 2 Capi customers will be served at the Capi Photo Electronics shop at Gates 28-29 and the shop in the long haul flights area.
31.1.-15.2.11. Finnair's Tax Free shop to be closed during move
Finnair's airside Tax Free shop will still be open until 5:00pm on 31 January. After this, it will be closed until mid February due to the move. The Finnair Tax Free shop will open in its new location at Gates 28 and 29.
9.1.11 Robert's café at Gates 24-25 to close
The café will remain open until Sunday 9 January 2011 at 6:00pm. The café is being closed due to construction work on Gates 22-27. Other café services will be available throughout the airside terminal areas.

16.12.10 New shops and border control kiosks to be opened for Gates 30-31
Santa's Toys & Gifts, Timanttiset jewellery, Readers bookstore, ARG fashion and apparel and Capi electronics will be opening new locations. 10 new border control kiosks were also added.
30.11.10 Kalevala Koru closes its doors at gate 14
15.11.10 Moomin Shop moves temporarily to gate 28
Moomin Shop moves from gate 26 to gate 28. The shop will be at temporary location until the second week of January.
20.10.10 New restaurant complex open for business
The completely updated Restaurant & Deli Fly Inn will open above Gate 27. The restaurant complex also includes the Lapin Kulta Lounge, which provides an excellent view of the tarmac.
Located across from Gate 29 on the second floor, restaurant Pronto will close to make way for renovation work.
5.10.10 Schengen area to be expanded
Ramps 30 and 31 and the adjoining bus gate will made available for Schengen traffic. The renovation work on passenger and waiting areas as well as passport control in gate area 32-33 will continue until the end of the year.
4.10.10 Changes to Terminal 2 check-in desks
The second phase of the renovation work on Terminal 2 has ended. Check-in area 240-270 will be fully completed, with 13 new check-in desks added to the 17 opened last spring. Check-in locations of airlines operating in Terminal 2 to change
The third phase of the renovation work has begun. Work on the baggage conveyor system will move to check-in area 201-232, and some of the desks will be closed for over six months.

15.8.10 Children's playroom at Gate 30 is open
The playroom located adjacent to Gates 30 and 31 is once again open.
16.5.10 Fresh Cafe ends its services at gate 30
In the future My City Helsinki serves the whole non-Shengen area.
15.5.10 Playroom at gate 30 closes temporalily
Due to renovation the playroom at gate 30 is closed for the time being.
14.5.10 Transfer service desk moves at gate 30
Transfer service desk 3 moves to next to the Duty Free shop.
11.5.10 Renovated check-in area to open
The first phase of the terminal redevelopment has been completed, with 17 new check-in desks ready for business. Check-in for Finnair long-haul flights and some scheduled flights will be assigned to new desks 240-257.
5.5.10 Renovation work at Gates 30 and 31 begun
The boarding bridges at Gates 30 and 31 as well as their waiting areas will be moved to the Schengen side of the terminal, thus providing additional passenger space for those travelling on European flights. Service point operations will be affected by the renovation work. The new area will be completed by the end of the year.
12.4.10 Temporary cafe to open at Gate 28
Café Tuuli will make way for renovation work at Gate 28. The temporary cafe will be located next to the Wine & View wine bar.
12.4.10 Finnair Tax Free shop to open in new location
Due to renovation work on the terminal, the Finnair Tax Free shop will be moving to the adjacent storefront for just over six months.
12.4.10 Golden Gate Lounge and Gateway Lounge to be closed
The Finnair Golden Gate Lounge and SSP Gateway Lounge will be closed for renovations. Finnair passengers will be served by the Silver Wings Lounge and SSP passengers by the Tower Lounge located above Gates 25-26.
15.3.10 A new Airport Shop opened between gates 26-27
Airport shop serves also arriving passengers. In selection fragrances, a wide variety of sweets, cosmetics and gift items as well as Finnish-made gourmet products.

7.12.09 A new ARG Airport Fashion has opened at gate 30
The selections include women's and men's fashion, accessories and jewellery.
21.-24.9.09 Café Picnic temporarily closed
Café Picnic is undergoing remodelling and will be temporarily closed. Passengers will be served by the adjacent Take Away Deli. Check the locations in the service map.
15.09.09 New shops and a big restaurant complex will open in the long-haul area
Top brand purveyors Luxbag and Mulberry as well as the familiar Stockmann, M-Boxi and Aseman Kello will open in the expansion.
In addition to the shops, the 400-seat My City Helsinki restaurant complex will open in the expansion.

27.8.09 New passenger facilities to be opened in the long-haul flight area
The first section of the terminal expansion for long-haul flights has been completed. The airy, inviting gate areas and some of the new boarding ramps were opened to passengers on Thursday 27 August. R-kioski opened for business in the area. Check the new location in the service map.
23.8.09 Luhta store moves
Located across from Gate 28, the Luhta store will be moved to its new location next to Capilux. See the map for the new location.
16.8.09 Tie Rack moves to a new location
Located across from Gate 27 on the Boulevard, Tie Rack will move to its new location across the corridor. The new location will open on 16 August. See the map for the new location.
15.8.09 Fly Inn restaurant closed for several months; viewing terrace to be closed
The Fly Inn restaurant is undergoing remodelling and will be temporarily closed for several months. The restaurant will open again in April 2010, but the entrance will only be accessible from passenger gate areas airside. The restaurant entrance will be located next to Gate 27.
The viewing terrace in front of Fly Inn restaurant will be closed. For the time being, there will be no place in the terminal where non-passengers can view aircraft. There are, however, many places around the airport from which to watch aircraft taking off and landing. A dedicated viewing terrace will be built on Katriinantie.
The Junkers airplane above Gate 28 will be moved into storage at the Finnish Aviation Museum. The airplane will return when renovation work has been completed.
9.8.09 Renovation work on old terminal areas begins
Renovation work on former Departure Hall 3 and gate area 27-28 begins. Passengers will still be able to move through these areas. Check-in and security control are done in terminal 2 in areas 200 and 400 as well as in terminal 1. Service points in the gate area will be open normally, they will only move temporarily.

5.8.09 Some 15 airlines will change terminals
The current International Terminal will become Terminal 2. Blue1, SAS, Lufthansa and some 10 other airlines will move to the old Domestic Terminal, which is now Terminal 1. Finnair and Finncomm will continue operating their domestic and international flights out of Terminal 2. Please check the correct departure terminal on the airline listing.
The old signage system has been replaced. Read below (3 July) on changes made to the signage.
4.8.09 Security control line improvements completed
Security control line capacity has been improved by adding new lines and lengthening the line counters.
13.7.09 Smoking room at Gate 27 to be closed
The smoking room located between Gates 26 and 27 on the Boulevard will be closed. The nearest public smoking area is located above Gate 23. See the map for the location of smoking areas.
3.7.09 Updating of the airport signage system begins
In conjunction with the terminal expansions and changing of airline terminal assignments, the airport signage system will be updated by 5 August 2009. The current gate numbering (11-33) will be increased (9-40). The Domestic Terminal will become Terminal 1 (T1) and International Terminal will become Terminal 2 (T2). Check-in areas can still be found by the terminal number and check-in desk number. The baggage claim and arrival halls will be named Arrivals 1, 2A and 2B. Upon arrival, passengers can find out where to claim their baggage on monitors in the terminal.
2.7.09 The first departure gates of the extension to Terminal 2 were taken into use

The Airport has increased the number of checking stations and tables in the area in order to maintain capacity, with four security checking stations operational throughout the renovation period.
4.11.08 Building work for a luggage tunnel started
